Workshop 3 | Seed harvesting

🪴 Projet Multiply Diversity 🪴

🪴 ‘Multiply Diversity’ project 🪴

CELL and SEED asbl are putting their energy into seed training in 2026!

Five (community) gardens have volunteered to multiply local seeds.
We are organising training sessions in these very gardens to monitor every stage of the seed-multiplying process.

Harvesting seeds

Come and learn how to harvest your seeds properly so you can become more self-sufficient, reproduce your favourite varieties and grow plants that are well-suited to your garden. To help you harvest your seeds successfully, we’ll share all our tips: choosing the right fruit, drying the seeds, selecting healthy seeds…

Current context

Autumn - harvest time. This year, the seed-bearing plants were exposed to extreme weather conditions: heat and drought. The seeds from the plants that survived carry genetic traits that will make them more stress-resistant in the future. So even a small seed harvest can mean higher quality. Local seeds are particularly important in difficult times.

Cleaning, sorting & storing seeds

Cleaning, sorting and storing seeds are crucial stages in seed propagation. After harvest, the seeds go through several stages to ensure they are ready for use the following year. During this workshop, you’ll learn how to produce high-quality seeds that are labelled and stored under the right conditions.
