How can Luxembourg tackle the climate challenge without compromising our quality of life? How can we envisage a society that is resource-efficient by design? Over the past few months, we have been exploring an alternative path towards carbon neutrality, drawing on the European CLEVER scenario project. We will present the results on 8 July in the presence of Yves Marignac, spokesperson for negaWatt France.

How can Luxembourg tackle the climate challenge without compromising our quality of life? How can we envisage a society that is resource-efficient by design? Over several months, we have explored a path towards carbon neutrality, drawing on the European CLEVER scenario project. It offers scope for a faster, cheaper and fairer transition, whilst reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and price volatility.

We will present the results on 8 July in the presence of Yves Marignac, spokesperson for negaWatt France, who will give an introductory talk.

Background:

The CLEVER scenario is a study that sets out how Europe could successfully achieve its energy transition by 2050; it was developed over four years by around twenty countries, coordinated by the French association Négawatt. Its conclusions are encouraging: by combining energy efficiency measures, the development of renewable energy and better management of our energy demand, Europe could become entirely independent of imports and achieve climate neutrality as early as 2045. In Luxembourg, the CELL association has chosen to build on this work to explore it in greater depth and adapt it to the country’s specific circumstances. The scenario takes our practical needs — transport, housing and food — as its starting point to set realistic targets sector by sector and put them forward for discussion. The scenario does not aim to predict the future but to shed light on possible future trajectories in order to inform the choices we make today.
