MBSR: Grounded Presence
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) offers an evidence-based response to the stresses, anxieties, and sense of disconnection that can arise from navigating these turbulent times.
Compassion and nature-connection practices have been shown to support us to cultivate a stronger relationship with ourselves, others and the natural world.
When we are resourced: grounded, calm and compassionate we can begin to reclaim our hope and agency and take small, steady actions which are congruent with our values of care for ourselves, each other and our planet.
This 8-week online Grounded Presence course brings together mindfulness, neuroscience, inner development and nature-aware practice to help you meet life's challenges with greater calm, resilience, and care. Through guided meditations, gentle movement, and shared reflection, you'll learn to return to your senses, steady attention, and reconnect with what truly sustains you.
Grounded Presence invites you to notice how nature supports and mirrors our practice — reminding us that we are part of the living world, not separate from it. As we cultivate mindful awareness, we also awaken a deeper appreciation of our reciprocal relationship with Earth, and our shared capacity to care — for ourselves, one another, and the world we belong to.

I am currently in the process of establishing a Luxembourg association of mindfulness teachers via EAMBA - Earth Alliance of Mindfulness-Based Associations and am being mentored by Margaret Fletcher of the MBSR & Eco Awareness project. I would like to amplify the work of earth-aware/ nature-connected mindfulness and compassion teachers so that more teachers adopt this approach to shift the conversation in Western mindfulness beyond personal wellbeing and towards 'bigger-than-self' concerns so that practice is truly for the wellbeing of all beings in line with its ethical origins. I welcome collaboration with any qualified mindfulness teachers to disseminate this work.
I am also part of a local Inner Development Goals Hub - Learning in the Flow of Life - an asbl/ cooperative of learning and inner development specialists with the goal of promoting inner development to support outer change. Again, we welcome the collaboration of likeminded specialists who are willing and able to amplify this work in a collegiate and cooperative atmosphere.

Objectivos
To respond to the "crisis of disconnection" ( Bristow et al., 2022 ) by growing skills and resources to:
- Reconnect participants with their direct, moment to moment embodied experience
- Build interpersonal mindfulness skills to enhance replacementship
- Cultivate nature-connection through nature-inspired practices
Efeito
The evidence that supports MBSR and it's positive impact as a response to stress, anxiety and low mood is extensive.
Likewise, the reciprocal benefits of nature connection and wellbeing for the whole eco-system are well documented.
Emerging evidence over that last decade demonstrates that mindfulness and compassion enhance nature-connection and that mindfulness and nature-connection, when practiced together, enhance sustainable behaviors and our likelihood to act in a way that is congruent with our values and beliefs.
My Masters thesis reviewed the literature in this area alongside a pilot MBSR: Grounded Presence course which integrated nature-connection into the standard MBSR curriculum, The feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
Overall, 98% of participants rated the teaching as Outstanding (58%) or Very much so, excellent (39%), with the remainder rated as Mostly good.
In relation to the nature-connection aspect of the course this is what participants had to say at the end of the course:
"Added an extra dimension, and brought a richness and beauty... we can turn to the same mindful practices that ground us in presence. In times of doubt or struggle, return to body like a mountain, breathe like the wind. Connect with heart space, like the burning sun. Go slow and breathe!" (Participant 1”
“Realizing that I do not have to be perfect - just like nature is not.” (Participant 2)
“The references to nature were quite helpful like the sunbeam of attention, body like a mountain, and breath like the wind. I've become more aware of my surroundings, and I'm looking forward to spending a bit more time in nature once I move.” (Participant 3)
“These elements helped be more focused on the beauty that surrounds me and by being
in auto-pilot it is
often ignored ambiguous relationship with nature that I have been exploring so this gave a wonderful opportunity to do this. I would have liked to do more around this but having these to come back to as I continue to explore is really helpful. “So the way these elements were woven into the course was so natural that if I didn't know the base MBSR program I would think this was how it should always be taught/led.” (Participant 8)
Grupo-alvo
The course is intended for an adult, general public audience. The pilot was run online to an international participant group.
I would like support to roll the course out to a wider audience, perhaps in local communities or organizations.
The course currently takes place over 10 sessions: an orientation, 8 x 2 and a half hourly sessions and an all-day retreat. It would also be adapted as a 4-day intensive retreat style event or run over 4 weeks, 1-day per week.
Desafios e sucessos de aprendizagem
The pilot was run online to enhance accessibility and reduce costs (venue hire) but participants commented that an in person element would have been beneficial. Likewise the opportunity for a practice environment that enabled some parts of the session/s to be conducted in nature would be helpful.
